Description
This watch reflects the Grand Seiko design principles cemented by Taro Tanaka back in 1967. It incorporates his ‘Grammar of Design,’ created to differentiate the ‘look’ of a Grand Seiko; to add glow and light to the watch on the wrist – known for its sharp edges, large zaratsu polished surfaces, razor-like flanks, unobtrusive bezel, and highly contrasting dial elements. These signature design features are presented in a compact case, measuring 36.5mm in diameter. It is powered by a 9S64 calibre movement which has a +5/-3 seconds per day accuracy and a three-day power reserve.
The dial of this piece features a deep blue sunray pattern, the silver colour of the hands are designed to reflect the light. The interplay between light and shadow is a constant theme in Grand Seiko, from the hands to the sharp edges and soft curves of the case, often found in a 44GS. Contrasting Zaratsu and mirror finishing on each and every surface creates a vision of depth and the Grand Seiko trademark sparkle. The flat dial lies at the base of a wide opening, allowing maximum light in. The indexes and hands are razor-edged and multifaceted, demonstrating precision in every aspect.
As a true vertically-integrated ‘manufacture,’ Grand Seiko incorporates the latest in-house technical developments alongside its breadth of craftsmanship in all mechanical movements – with around 300 individual components, they exhibit near-perfect consistency to ensure precision. Mere parts alone, however, cannot constitute the level of accuracy for which Grand Seiko is renowned; Grand Seiko Takumi craftspeople adjust parts by hand to tolerances of one hundredth of a millimetre – detailed craftsmanship ensuring the precise timekeeping delivered by the 9S mechanical movement.
Every Grand Seiko features signature high standards of precision, durability and legibility, handcrafted in Japan by Takumi artisans.
