There will be just 140 pieces of this limited-edition Spring Drive design available globally, created to mark the 140th anniversary of the Seiko Watch Corporation.

Its ‘annual rings’ design is inspired by the interior of a tree – which adds another ring as another year goes by. Commemorating 140 years since Mr Hattori opened his watch and clock repair shop in Tokyo, the rings represent the brand’s constant themes of craftsmanship, innovative design and passion for watchmaking.

This timepiece is from the ‘Evolution 9’ designs or ‘Kyu’ collection – watches that epitomise the Grand Seiko endeavour to create the most precise, durable, wearable and beautiful watch possible. ‘Kyu’ in Japanese means both 9 – the highest number possible – and ultimate, representing the aim for the ultimate in watchmaking.

Series 9 is a modernised version of the classic 44GS Grand Seiko style. This precise in-house design formula carefully balances light and dark across the dial in a recognisable stylish way to maximise legibility for its wearer.

This timepiece is powered by the brand’s iconic Spring Drive movement, one of the most significant developments in recent watchmaking which took 28 years to develop. With a superior level of precision, Spring Drive generates energy with a mainspring combined with an electronic regulator, never requiring a battery change. Seiko Watch Corporation pioneered Spring Drive which is only available in their timepieces.
