This timepiece, limited to only 300 pieces worldwide, was designed within the characteristic Japanese theme of the impermanent transience of nature. One of Japan’s fundamental views of nature is that its beauty is within its constant growth and evolution; the way that nothing remains the same – from changing sunlight during the day to the evolution of buds into flowers. This Buddhist teaching expresses how nature alters with time, just as Grand Seiko Takumi craftspeople constantly work towards the aim for perfection through honing even higher levels of craftsmanship. These evolving skillsets are passed on to the next generation of watchmakers, as has been the case for 65 years.

Designed in the brand’s Evolution 9 style, under a box sapphire glass, the coppertone-pink three-dimensional dial of this Grand Seiko timepiece features the brand’s recognisable Mount Iwate pattern, depicting the mountaintop view with outstretched snow-covered ridges radiating from its peak. Evolution 9 is the latest 2020s stage in Grand Seiko’s “Grammar of Design” framework, first established with the 44GS – a blueprint to maximise sparkle, legibility and wearability for Grand Seiko watches since 1967. Crafted from high-intensity titanium, this timepiece is 30% lighter than stainless steel, and paired with a zirconia ceramic bezel, provides enhanced scratch resistance. Its case is also plated with 18 carat rose gold. The indices, hour and minute hands, and clasp are crafted with high-intensity titanium and 18 carat rose gold.

Powered by an in-house built 9SC5 Hi-Beat chronograph calibre – the ten-beat chronograph with the world’s longest power reserve when first introduced in March 2023, named for its “TEN beats per second,” “Three days of power reserve,” “Automatic,” and a “chronoGRAPH,” the 9SC5 is accurate to +5/-3 seconds per day.
