Limited to only 1,300 pieces worldwide, the ‘Violet Dawn Ice Forest’ is powered by the world’s most accurate wristwatch movement operated by a mainspring, representing the Grand Seiko never-ending challenge for innovation.

The ‘Ultra Fine Accuracy’ Spring Drive calibre classification is the ultimate in Takumi watchmaking; the next step in innovation since the 1969 Grand Seiko VFA, +/-1 second per day ‘Very Finely Adjusted’ classification. At 37mm, the Ice Forest is the most compact 9R automatic Spring Drive model to-date.

The Ever-Brilliant Steel Evolution 9 case design features a new ‘ice forest’ dark purple textured dial inspired by the early morning scenery of the Kirigamine Highlands in harsh winter, near Shinshu Watch Studio, where all Grand Seiko Spring Drive timepieces are crafted. The silver-coloured hands and indices are Zaratsu polished to a razor edge.

Evolution 9 is the latest 2020s stage in Grand Seiko’s “Grammar of Design” framework, first established with the 44GS – a blueprint to maximise sparkle, legibility and wearability for Grand Seiko watches since 1967.

The new in-house built 9RB2 Automatic UFA Spring Drive calibre is accurate to +/- 0.3 seconds per day, +/- 20 seconds per year, with a three-day power reserve. The 9RB2 is the first Spring Drive calibre with a mechanism for personal finely adjustment and regulation. The movement layout itself is designed to resemble the surroundings of Shinshu; its jewels depict the stars sparkling above the mountains, the finishing resembling the winter forest frost.
