The ‘Ushio’ Diver features a textured dial design inspired by the richly biodiverse sea around Japan, with its strong currents around the unique shape of the archipelago.

‘The Nature of Time’ theme features prominently in Grand Seiko watch designs – a Japanese spirituality in which each moment is a unique expression unveiled through light and shadow. The watchmakers’ pride in their surroundings is represented from engineering watch movements to creating dials reflecting the beauty of Japanese nature.

The ‘Evolution 9’ style of this sports timepiece is based around the evolution of the brand’s design principles of creating wearable, legible and desirable timepieces with flat two-dimensional, wide surfaces and distortion-free mirror finishing.

Firstly E9 is an “evolution in aesthetics” – the design expresses infinite gradations between light and shadow, achieved with flat Zaratsu polished surfaces combined with hairline finishing.

Secondly an “evolution in legibility” – the powerful hands and grooved, prominent markers with LumiBrite ensure quick and clear visibility.

And thirdly an “evolution in comfort” – curved lugs; the crown guard to reduce damage, and the improved crown shape ensures an easier grip. The case and bracelet are made of high-intensity titanium, whilst the bezel is ceramic, providing a lightweight wear with a scratch and corrosion-resistant finish.

The high specifications of this 300m diver’s watch are in accordance with the latest international ISO 6425 diver’s watch requirements for quality and clear visibility. It features a micro-adjustment clasp, adjustable in three incremental 2mm adjustments, with the addition of an 18mm Diver’s extension link, for greater comfort.

The new in-house built 9RB1 Automatic UFA Spring Drive calibre is accurate to +/- 0.3 seconds per day, +/- 20 seconds per year, with a three-day power reserve. The 9RB movements are the first Spring Drive calibres with a mechanism for personal fine adjustment and regulation. The movement layout itself is designed to resemble the surroundings of Shinshu; its jewels depict the stars sparkling above the mountains, the finishing resembling the winter forest frost.
