‘The Nature of Time’ theme features prominently in Grand Seiko watch designs – a Japanese spirituality in which each moment is a unique expression unveiled through light and shadow. The watchmakers’ pride in their surroundings is represented from engineering watch movements to creating dials reflecting the beauty of Japanese nature.

The ‘Ice Forest at Dawn’ is inspired by Grand Seiko’s founder, Kintaro Hattori’s motto for the brand: ‘Don’t hurry, don’t stop’ – depicted on the dial through the representation of the slow and steady growth of the larch forest that weathers the harsh cold of Suwa. The black gradation dial is sprinkled with gold particles, like glimmers of the sun on the treetops during a winter morning.

The ‘Evolution 9’ style of this sports timepiece is based around the evolution of the brand’s design principles of creating wearable, legible and desirable timepieces with flat two-dimensional, wide surfaces and distortion-free mirror finishing.

Firstly E9 is an “evolution in aesthetics” – the design expresses infinite gradations between light and shadow, achieved with flat Zaratsu polished surfaces combined with hairline finishing.
Secondly an “evolution in legibility” – the powerful hands and grooved, prominent markers ensure quick and clear visibility.

And thirdly an “evolution in comfort” – curved lugs and the improved crown shape ensures an easier grip.

Crafted in 18ct yellow gold, the 37mm case, crown and clasp match the yellow-gold hands, paired with a black crocodile leather strap.

The in-house built, Grand Seiko exclusive 9RB2 Automatic UFA Spring Drive calibre is accurate to +/- 0.3 seconds per day, +/- 20 seconds per year, with a three-day power reserve. The 9RB2 movement is the first Spring Drive calibre with a mechanism for personal fine adjustment and regulation. The movement layout itself is designed to resemble the surroundings of Shinshu; its jewels depict the stars sparkling above the mountains, the finishing resembling the winter forest frost.

Every Grand Seiko features signature high standards of precision, durability, and legibility, handcrafted in Japan by Takumi artisans.
